Lakeview Cellars 2019 Kerner

What is Kerner?

Kerner is an aromatic white grape originating from Germany. It was bred in 1929 by August Herold by crossing Trollinger (a red variety) and Riesling. Kerner buds late and so the shoots mature well and show a considerable resistance to cold winters (it can survive at temperatures of -10°C). There are only about 5 Acres of Kerner grown in the Niagara Wine Region!

Lakeview Cellars 2019 Kerner

Our Lakeview Cellars Kerner is aromatic, with notes of pear, candied citrus, with hints of orange flower & lavender. Vibrant flavours of passion fruit, pear, lime, & hints of Clementine. The finish itself is clean, with a touch of sweetness.

Characteristics:

Straw yellow in colour, sometimes with golden reflects. Pronounced bouquet, often with a Muscat tone; fresh aromas offer a tasty blend of mixed white fruits, with hints of apple, grapefruit and a tropical whiff of mango. Resembling Riesling, Kerner wines are fresh, racy and fruity, but yet milder in acidity and showing more body.

Pairs with:

It is a perfect match for summer pasta salads and shellfish, as well as spicy dishes. Its full flavor would hold up even against grilled white meats, fish and poultry.
